Printmaking

I’m only a few weeks into printmaking. It all comes out of an ambition to do more with my life drawing work which started last summer with large watercolour reproductions of sketches created at Silvia MacRea Brown’s Charleston sessions.

I moved onto printmaking initially inspired by. Carolyn Trant when I got talking to her at Art Wave last September.

I was at T N Lawrence in Hove looking for materials when I came across a card for Bip-Art and have now been back to three times (just off Sussex Manor Gardens)

Bip-Art

My overly grand projects have interacted with more projects undertaken as learning exercises, starting with chine-collée of a quick sketch of Dave from a life class now dubbed ‘Markstakes Man’. Only today have I started ti try and create a ‘Markstakes Women’ with a set of colour inks to hand.

About Jonathan Vernon

I am a blogger, writer, screenwriter, printmaker, and educator whose work crosses the porous border between memoir and fiction. His narratives draw on five decades of diaries, dreams, and remembered landscapes — from Northumberland to Sussex — weaving personal history with social observation. Known for his sharp eye and gentle wit, he writes about the shifting nature of identity, the ghosts of childhood, and the enduring search for meaning in the everyday. His recent projects include The Form Photo, The Girl in the Garden, and Watersprites, each fusing memory, mythology, and modern technology to reimagine the stories we tell ourselves.
